Changing the shape or size of your nose may be something you have wanted to do for a long time. Rhinoplasty is a cosmetic surgical procedure that reshapes the nose and improves its appearance.

Rhinoplasty can make a nose larger or smaller and can change the shape of the bridge, tip or nostrils. The procedure can also correct injuries and breathing problems that arise. The results of Rhinoplasty can increase your confidence and improve the balance and proportions of your face.

During a ‘closed’ Rhinoplasty procedure which is performed under anaesthesia, incisions are made inside the rims of the nostrils. By placing the incisions inconspicuously, there should be virtually no visible scarring. If the nose is being made smaller, the bone and cartilage are altered and reset.

The surgeon may prefer to do an ‘open’ Rhinoplasty in more complicated cases. A small incision between the nostrils will be visible.

Depending on the individual, Rhinoplasty takes one hour to complete and usually a splint is placed on the nose for one week to help your nose maintain its new shape.

Side effects are generally contained to swelling and bruising around the eyes and they quickly subside. Reduction in the swelling of the nose takes more time and in some cases numbness may be present for a number of months after the procedure. It takes a few months to see the final results of rhinoplasty surgery.
